Equality progress for homophobia in the construction industry
A survey by Architects’ Journal discovered a shocking 85% of construction workers have encountered homophobia at least once during their careers. Researchers discovered that the problem was far greater than predicted in 2013, in a similar study when the results showed 63% of gay employees encountering homophobic comments in the workplace in the last year. These results have led them to investigate the construction industry as a whole.
Saturday 6th February saw National Student Pride include six of the largest construction firms in the UK attending the fair at the University of Westminster in an attempt to change the image of their trade. This may only be a small step but founder of the fair Tom Guy was filled with delight and believes this is a big step for the construction industry.
