Love is in the air at Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair
BY JESSICA NANGLE
So yesterday, it was Valentines Day and whether you spent the day with that special someone or with a slice of pizza, Clerkenwell had an event that catered to everyone.
The award winning Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair hosted its Valentines event, and enticed visitors with 2 for 1 tickets, whether it be with your beau, bestie or your mum, and people flocked to Islington to see the latest vintage collection pieces, from dresses to brooches, from suits to watches.
Clerkenwell, next to the tech savvy Shoreditch, has been showing its creative spirit with a series of events such as their Vintage Fair and Clerkenwell Design Week, and many are beginning to see the area as the creative hub of the capital.
The fair prides itself by selling vintage designer pieces that inspire the fashion houses when creating the latest trends, and the organisers even arrange an on hand fitting service if that perfect vintage Chanel coat needs some adjustment.
Old fashion pieces from the early 20th Century fashion houses, never go out of style, and from stone rings from the birth of the 20th Century to the swing dresses a la ‘Grease’ it is obvious to see that even in 2016, vintage fashion is loved and adored.
So what makes vintage fashion so iconic in the modern era? Marta Knaś, a keen fashionista who studies fashion in Paris, claims that “the importance of vintage is growing as it seems it is no longer just about vintage hunting in Brick Lane.”
She continues, “fashion of the past is major inspiration for modern creators – Allesandro Michele from Gucci or Hedi Slimane from Saint Laurent are the most obvious examples. Fashion bounces back, and now it is even more visible.”
So if you don’t have a significant other at this time of year, do not fear! The vintage fashion fair is on hand to help you fall in love with vintage.
